Equipment & Safety

In Scotland it is illegal to fish any river without a permit or the proprietor’s permission. It is also illegal to fish for salmon on a Sunday.

All anglers - day rods and residential guests - must adhere to the River Deveron Angling Code for Salmon & Trout. This angling code, formed by the River Deveron District Salmon Fishery Board, can be found displayed in our huts and will be emailed out prior to your visit.

Equipment

We do not currently hire out angling kit but we are happy to recommend all the suppliers you could need for a successful fishing trip.

It is expected that guests bring their own fishing equipment and clothing but if you are a beginner or require equipment please let us know in advance and we will do all we can to help.

If you need to hire part or all of the equipment for your trip, we recommend you contact Twin Peakes Flyfishing. This needs to be booked in advance.

For a river the size of the Deveron we would recommend a rod between 10'6" - 12'. This is not to say a smaller or bigger rod is no use! Popular flies on the beats are cascades and green highlanders. We would recommend having a range of sizes in your fly box so you have something for all conditions!

Safety

Safety on our river is also of paramount importance. Our Safety Guidelines are on display in our huts and will also be emailed out prior to your visit. We advise all anglers, new or returning, to wear a life preserver when fishing the Deveron or in a boat on any of our river beats or ponds.
