Summer Highlights

With the meteorological summer over this seems like a good time to pick some highlights from the past few months at Deveronside.

FIRST SALMON

In August Adrian Neill caught his first ever salmon on Beat 2 at Upper Netherdale. Adrian was staying at Waterside Lodge while on a business trip and took us up on the offer of an afternoon on the river with the tuition of our ghillie, Dave. Adrian lost an estimated 20lb fish before landing his 7lb salmon with an admiring audience looking on! We think he’s hooked now!!

ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW

Deveronside Fishings was part of the ‘Aberdeenshire Village’ at the Royal Highland Show this year. This was the 2017 president’s initiative and was a platform to showcase the area and all it has to offer. It was super to see so many familiar faces as well as new ones and to have the opportunity to promote fishing, the river Deveron and Aberdeenshire.

THE MAGICAL FERRY COTTAGE

We welcomed a lovely family to Ferry Cottage this summer from Hong Kong and Wales. They wrote me a touching email afterwards to say thank you and one sentence in particular made us smile - “my wife pronounced it ‘Faery Cottage’; perhaps she is right, there is certainly something magical about the place”. Maybe we should be considering a name change!

PACIFIC SALMON

In July Craig Wyness, member of our syndicate and previous Morrison Trophy winner (twice!), caught a pacific pink salmon at Carnousie. This was the first ‘pinkie’ we had heard of at the time on the Deveron.

ATLANTIC SALMON

“Just 10 minutes fishing before our guests arrive!” said my father at Waterside Lodge this July. 5 minutes later the phone rang to request the assistance of a ghillie with a net! What a beauty!

The season isn’t over yet though so tight lines to all!
